The miracles in medical field are always a case of jaw dropping for the non medical people. Here’s a builder who got his sight back through a tooth implant in his eye ! There’s no mistake in the sentence you just read, here’s the full story.

Martin Jones, a 42 year old builder from South Yorkshire, England had been blind for 12 years after a tub of white hot aluminum exploded in his face as he worked at a scrapyard. He was able to see his wife Gill for the first time after four years of marriage. But a remarkable surgery, that implanted part of his tooth in his eye brought light into his sight as well as life. The procedure, performed fewer than 50 times before in Britain, uses the segment of tooth as a holder for a new lens grafted from his skin.

In the accident that burnt his eyes, Martin Jones suffered 37 per cent burns and had to wear a special body stocking for 23 hours a day. He also had his left eye removed. But surgeons were able to save the right eye, even though he was unable to see through it. At first specialists in Nottingham tried to save his sight using stem cells from a donor but the attempt failed.

Martin Jones- Tooth eye

Years later, a team of dexterous surgeons stepped in. They one of his teeth, implanted a tiny lens inside it, and then placed the tooth inside Martin’s remaining eye. They had to do it because his eye might have rejected a plastic implant, and the gory gamble paid off.

“I met my wife when I was blind and when I found out there was a chance I would get my sight back the first person I wanted to see was her. The doctors took the bandages off and it was like looking through water and then I saw this figure and it was her. She’s wonderful and lovely. It was unbelievable to see her for the first time” said Martin Jones after the miraculous surgery got him his sight back.
