Tzatziki originated in Greece and Turkey. It is usually made with goat or sheep milk. But cow or buffalo milk is also a great substitute. Enjoy this simple hearty dip with minimal ingredients. Serves as a great dip that can be prepared in less than 10 minutes if you have the ingredients handy.
Yogurt – 2 cups
Olive oil – 2 tbsp
Lemon juice – 1 tbsp
Salt – to taste
Cucumber (medium) – 1
Dill leaves (chopped) – 2 tbsp
Garlic – 3 cloves
Pepper powder – to taste
Hang yogurt in a muslin cloth for 2 hours. Meanwhile peel and grate the cucumber. Smash the garlic cloves and finely chop them.
Add garlic, grated cucumber, olive oil, chopped dill leaves, lemon juice, salt, and pepper to the yogurt. Whisk the mixture well. Allow it to sit in the fridge for an hour and whisk again before serving as a dip.
Tzatziki goes well with toast, nachos and almost everything. Can also be used as spread in sandwich.
